Halloween Rules Day 4: Back in the game :)

today's stitching session went well, I still managed to get distracted but not so much :)

Header is finished, honestly you have no idea how happy that made me earlier!! Took a 2 hour break after that and had some dinner, finished the dog (except his eyes) and started the wording before realising that I have work in the morning and as much as I'd love to stay up and carry on stitching, I am actually pretty tired! Tomorrow evening will see this rule finished :)

It's a really clear night tonight, managed to snap this shot in my back garden, Dad recons it's Venus, Jupiter and the moon but I'm not entirely sure, pretty picture though :)

Any astrologers out there??

Halloween Rules Day 3

Ok so seeing as I've missed days 1 & 2, this is going to take some explaining. My original goal for this year was to stitch Halloween Rules by December 31st. Given that there are 12 rules in total plus the border this meant I could stitch a rule a month and fit the border in when possible (namely Janary and then stitch 2 rules in Feb), easy peasy right??

WRONG!! I kinda procrastinated with it a whole lot and actually only started it this month; then I procrastinated some more...so 3 days ago on the 21st I decided to set myself I challenge. I've given myself 10 days to get myself up to date with this project (if I don't do it then it's not the end of the world, I just felt like a challenge!) This means I have to get the rest of the border and 3 rules completed by March 31st.

Day one was off to a cracking start, this is how it looked at my last update  and this is how it looked when I stopped stitching on Day 1.

I estimated that if I stitched every night I'd finish a section in 2 nights so by that reckoning I should be halfway through the first rule at the minute...well I'm not, I haven't picked up the needle in 2 days!! Luckily tomorrow is set to be sunny and as it's my day off so I'll be playing catch-up 2.0 and my aim is to finish the rest of the header (2 grave stones with R & U on them and a moon) and the 1st rule 'Wear a Costume'.

If I can do that I'll be back on track! Much as I love Pokemon right now it'll just have to wait!!

An award!!

I received this wonderful award from Rhona at tangledthreads.

Here is a little bit about what the award is all about,

Liebster is a German word, meaning favorite, dearest or beloved, and the Liebster is awarded by bloggers to other, newer bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers, to spread the word and help the new(er)bies gain wider recognition. The award comes with four conditions that each recipient must satisfy when accepting:

1. Choose five up-and-coming blogs (with fewer than 200 followers) to award the Liebster to.
2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
3. Post the award on your blog. List the bloggers you are giving the award to with links to their sites. Leave comments on their blogs so they know about the award.
4. Share five random facts about yourself that people don't know about you.

so my follow 5 awardee's are:

1. Karyn at A Riot Patch of Pixels
2. Jessie at Pixel Stitches
3. Rachel at Caffine Crafting
4. Dawn at Anime Stitching
5.Emma at evening emma

And now I have to tell you five random facts about myself- Where to begin?

1. I collect vintage Barbie dolls
2. My favourite flavour of icecream ever was ben and jerrys plain vanilla...shame you can't get it here any more!
3. I read Harry Potter 7 in 90 mins when it was first released.
4. I love to make lists and lists over and over again
5. I wanted to open a toy hospital just like nurse nancy in Twinkle magazine until I was about 8 years old.

Thanks for reading!!

new stash :)

My mum often asks me why I buy charts from the states, mostly its because the selection on the american websites is so much bigger than on the UK ones. Sometimes its because I'll order something then totally forget all about it until it arrives on my doorstep weeks later...Today was one of those day :)

Look at my lovely new PS stash from downsunshinelane!!

I love these little promo cards, I actually went online to find the new bunny one on the bottom right after seeing Becky's lovely finish here and downsunshinelane was the first site I found that includes the promo mini cards free in the order. PS have released set of these cards so that newer stitchers can collect some of the older designs so natually I had to buy them!! A fourth set has actually just been released so guess what I'll be purchsing next month!

Weird moment happened today at work, I was chatting away to a customer about a crochet top we sell, she said she was just going to make one herself rather than fork out the money on a top from us. I replied saying one of my goals this year was to learn to crochet but that I was struggling to find a good beginner's tutorial. She then said oh you should google 'Attic 24' she has the most amazing blog and her projects are just so inspiring. To which I then replied I already follow her blog and looking at it is one of the main reasons why I want to crochet in the first place!

Spooky Stitching

finally got started on Lizzie Kate's Halloween Rules this month, I've been working on it in the evenings for the last two weeks (in between pokemon sessions on the DS....) and honestly although I am loving the design I am nowhere near as far along as I should be by now.

Besides being distracted by Pokemon on the DS I also didn't plan on not being able to read the border chart once I'd printed it. The PDF file on the website has been set up so that the header prints portait on the paper rather than landscape, this means that all the symbols are tiny and look virtually the same as one another...so I decided to stitch it from my laptop screen....this meant I couldn't stitch for too long without my eyes starting to feel the strain of screen glare. So I'd only stitched the tree and the arch in a week. Eventually I realised I could get the chart to fill my laptop screen then 'print screen' to get the desktop saved as an image, crop it down to just the chart and then print the image. That was two days ago and since then I've done everything else you can see in the picture below, (the word halloween and the pumpkin!)

Hoping to get the first rule done by Monday but giving that I'm working all weekend and have possible plans for tomorrow night it's not looking too likely...

Happy St Patrick's Day!!!

February round up!

Lol if I don't post this now then it'll be the middle of March before I do, for some reason February got away from me towards the end & I didn't really get much stitching done despite being off work.

I did manage to finish Lil Valentine as well as 2 of my crazy challenges. Dog Leave Pawprints by Lizzie Kate & Darcy Day by The Sampler Girl. I also managed to finish the sky on Super Mario which means that after using 4.5 skeins I no longer have to use DMC 739 in this design!! (and I'll be avoiding any designs that use it for a while!!)

Theme for Feb was FanGirls, I dedicated this month to Lizzie Kate & started my Green Flip-its Series and managed to finish Save Water. March's theme is March Maddness, we are supposed to be working on something different everyday, seeing as I did something similar in January with the Crazy Challenge, I've deciced to do my maddness a little differently. I plan to stitch one all my large projects for the year in March & maybe try one or two new crafts/techniques :)

TUSAL saw new threads added from all the projects mentioned above, I was actually quite supprised at how full it looks already (I keep it hidden behind a cushion on my sewing display table so that I can't see how full it is, I like to be supprised!)

Speaking of supprises, February also saw me turn 24. I received some womderful presents from my family & a few of the girls at work, 2 of my closest friends supprised me on the day by showing up with 24 cupcakes (individually wrapped in wrapping paper!) and silly toys to make me smile. I also received some lovely gifts from my stitching friends. I won Bekca's birthday giveaway for Feb, she sent me some wonderful blue stitching gifts (aida, thread, ribbon & needles) and a stunning Lizzie Kate Tea themed flat orny. Michelle sent me a fab cupcake pincushion kit, a wodden love heart orny & some pink fabric (i think it's evenweave but I need to check!) Thank you to you both, I love everything!!

March Goals are pretty simple:
  • work on super mario
  • try a punch needle kit
  • L*K Halloween Rules x3
  • L*K 6 Fat Men x2
  • Finish a Crazy Start
  • Finish my scarf
I think that's everything, I do have photos of all these things but seem to have misplaced my camera cable again... need to have a bit of a tidy up now I'm back at work & I'll get the photos uploaded ASAP :)

Till next time, happy stitching
